Restoring access to the Word 2008 status bar

Reader says: “I can’t navigate Word 2008 in Yosemite except with my mouse. I need to go from page 20 to page 500 instantly. No pages appear at bottom, and there’s no word count. How do I fix this? I’m a writer and this is very frustrating.”

My reply

1. Open Word 2008.
2. From the Word menu (located to the left of the File menu), choose Preferences.
3. In Word Preferences, click the View icon.
4. In the View menu, put a check mark next to the Status bar box (see screenshot).

Fix Word 2008 Status Bar

After clicking the OK button to dismiss the dialog box, the status bar information should reappear at the bottom of the screen. If it doesn’t and you’re still experiencing problems navigating Word using your mouse, reboot your Mac and then reopen the program.
