Help! Parallels Desktop won’t start my operating system

From a reader: My Parallels Desktop program got messed up and keeps displaying the same error without giving me the chance to run Windows 7. I can’t get beyond this popup error: “The virtual machine was restarted. The virtual machine processor was reset by the operating system.” What can I do to fix this?

Virtual Machine was reset

My response
What version of Parallels are you running? For instance, if it’s 9.0, the latest version, try doing a reinstall and be sure to download the latest patch. If you have the original installer, run that. If not and you’re running either version 8 or 9, log onto Parallels to download the appropriate disk image file.

If you’re running a version prior to 8.0, contact Parallels support for assistance.
