Google Earth for Mac freezes while Windows version doesn’t

Encountered a strange anomaly using Google Earth 6.2.2.7373 (Build date: 6/25/2012) for Mac: If I entered either Glendale, CA or Burbank, CA, as my locations, the software would freeze and I would have to Force Quit after I clicked the Search button. However, the search tool worked flawlessly without freezing if I performed identical searches using Google Earth for Windows.

I opened Console.app and noted the following error messages:

9/3/12 3:29:44 PM [0x0-0x1f51f5].com.Google.GoogleEarthPlus[17741] Google Earth(17741,0xa0279540) malloc: *** error for object 0x284c9750: pointer being freed was not allocated

Click map for a larger view of Glendale, CA that I saw when my Mac froze.

In view of the nature of the above problem, I plan to rely on Google Earth for Windows until Google releases an update to its Mac version.

  1. The Google Earth browser is a separate application from your web browser. As of July 16, 2006, the current stable version (v.3) runs on both Windows 2000/XP and Mac OSX (10.3.9 and higher). A beta version (v.4) runs on Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux platforms. The Google Earth browser can be downloaded from http://earth.google.com/ ( more info ) .
