Epson Stylus Color 740 printer does work in Snow Leopard

Ran into a situation the other day when a client was having difficulty getting her Epson Stylus Color 740 printer to work on her MacBook Air configured with Snow Leopard. The vintage printer had worked fine on her iBook running Tiger. Perusing the tech boards, I initially received the impression that the printer was incompatible with Mac OS X 10.6. Upon further review, I came across the simple solution.

The MacBook Air doesn’t include a SuperDrive in its stock configuration nor is it bundled with system installers on DVDs. Instead, the Epson printer drivers for Mac OS X have to be downloaded manually. A quick search on the Apple web site uncovered the download page for the Epson Printer Driver v2.4.1 disk image file that weighs in at 737 megabytes.
