The screen on my iPhone appears black when I open Mail

When using the Mail function on an iPhone or iPod touch, owners of these devices may suddenly find that the program has become unresponsive to any touchscreen action. Moreover, they are greeted with an ominous-looking black screen.

Fortunately, this particular problem does not pose a threat to the integrity of Mail documents and can be easily fixed. To restore normal use of Mail on an iPhone or iPod touch, follow one of the suggested procedures described on an Apple Support Page titled, “iPhone and iPod touch: Frozen and unresponsive.”
