Don’t run Soundtrack Pro 2 under Snow Leopard

This post is short and sweet.

Let’s assume the operating system on your primary workstation is Mac OS X 10.5 and you use the Final Cut Studio 2 suite to edit audio and video. You’re aware that Snow Leopard has been out for several weeks now and am wondering whether it’s the right time to upgrade your system. Furthermore, you noted that because of the economic slowdown that finances are tight and upgrading your copy of Final Cut Studio from version 2 to 3 is not feasible at this time.

Based on personal experience, if you rely on Soundtrack Pro 2 to process audio, I strongly recommend that you stick with Leopard and not upgrade your Mac OS to 10.6. Rendering audio effects under Soundtrack Pro 2 is noticeably sluggish under Snow Leopard. Waveforms don’t refresh as quickly, either. If you’re a Final Cut Studio 2 owner who plans to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard, be sure to buy the Final Cut Studio 3 upgrade at the same time.
