Cannot burn CD-R from iTunes

From today’s mailbag:

I’m trying to do something on my Mac that should be simple, but it’s not! I’m trying to burn a CD. I have a CD-R-52x that I bought from Walgreens (Corner Office is the brand) but when i try to burn a cd, I get this error message:

“The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.”

i checked some Mac forums but I’m becoming frustrated as they are getting too technical. I tried some crazy fix (having to do with language settings, etc.) and then read about this fix on the Apple support site:

  1. I suspect your CD burning problem is due to one of the following:

    1. The disc media is defective (generic discs sold in packs of 100 by mass retailers are susceptible to problems of this nature). Insert another disc from that set or, better yet, try burning a disc from a name-brand manufacturer like Sony or TDK.

    2. Your CD/DVD drive may be “dirty” with dust particles blocking the laser beam. Using a CD/DVD cleaning disc often helps.

Customer replied back and said she was going to buy new discs and a cd cleaning disk.

Agreed… Corner Office is a useless company, their media is garbage. If and only IF you get lucky enough to complete the burn.. you will continue to endure many other headaches. Such as, Cycle Redunacy issues, your CD’s will skip first time.. I don’t understand why someone would put out garbage like this?? Corner office are seriously useless.. Like Dale said.. buy Sony or TDK. The extra money spent will be worth it in the long run.. Trust me.
