MobileMe: First Impressions

Subsequent to last week’s release of iTunes 7.7 and the new iPhone 2.0 software, I downloaded and installed the MobileMe system preference that was recently released by Apple. I wanted to see how well Apple has implemented the ‘push’ technology to supported devices like the iPhone.

While I have been able to sync my calendar, email, and contact information through the MobileMe service, I noticed a small bug in the software where my Mac freezes at the end of the sync process. I have to Force Quit every time to regain control of my Mac.

After reviewing the console and system logs (see below), I submitted a bug report to Apple.

In response to the difficulties that have been reported regarding the MobileMe service, Apple made an announcement earlier today to provide all current subscribers with an automatic 30-day extension to their MobileMe subscription, free of charge.

  1. Responders to a recent MacFixIt article say that the DotMac Home Page and iCards features were eliminated under MobileMe. I conducted a cursory review and could not regain access to my DotMac Home Page, though my existing movies still played using their old URL. By eliminating the HomePage feature from MobileMe, Apple has disabled its seamless integration with iWeb.
