From today’s mail bag:
I have a client that recorded to DVD rather than tape. Can I edit these files in Final Cut Studio? Is there a third party app that will let me convert these files?

I use an open source program called HandBrake to rip an AVI-formatted video file from a DVD that I can then edit in FCP after I convert it to .dv format using QuickTime Pro. Please note, however, that the latest version (0.9.2) of HandBrake requires Leopard OS X 10.5.
Other tools that can be used for this purpose include MPEGStreamclip and DVxDV Basic (cost: $25).
