In the past few weeks, I’ve consulted two customers who were unable to start up their iMac G5’s. They would press the power button and their computer would not respond with the normal cues–no startup chime, fan noise, or grey screen. As it turned out, their startup problem was due to a faulty power button that affects some 17 inch and 20 inch iMacs sold between September 2004 and October 2005. Fortunately, this problem is covered by Apple. My clients took their iMacs in for service and were able to replace the defective power buttons at no cost.
