I would appreciate it if anyone has experience with recovering a lost file. I used DATA RESCUE II and I was able to get the file back, but I couldn’t open it. Thank you for any suggestions.

What probably happened is that you chose a file that had been fully or partially overwritten and was, thus, unrecoverable in its original format. In such cases, there’s no way that Data Rescue can reassemble the remaining pieces and make them whole again.
Files that have the best chance of full recovery include an OK flag in the Recover Files window. You’re less likely to achieve a successful recovery when you choose files that don’t have the OK flag.
